The Strategic Management Society has clearly embraced International Business. The founding of the Global Strategy Interest Group and the Global Strategy Journal are two permanent and highly visible commitments to the field. But has the Strategic Management field embraced International Business? In this Miami Conference Extension, we will start an open conversation between some of the key players in both research domains asking what it is that unites these fields and what divides them. We will also get the perspective of those few that have managed to become pillars in both fields. Some of the themes that will be covered are human assets, institutions and knowledge, and their increasing roles in building firm reputation and outsourcing. In the context of the above topics, distinguished panelists will present views on knowledge capital forestablished and emerging MNCs in the contemporary global environment. We are also inviting paper submissions and we will select the best papers to showcase at the conference. Please send your submissions to strategyfiu@gmail.com.
This extension will contain three panels of distinguished scholars and two sessions of paper presentations as well as poster sessions showcasing the best papers. In each of the panels, we will discuss a theme central to our field. Each panel is composed of at least one scholar who is a pillar in the field of strategy, a scholar that is a pillar in the field of international business and a scholar that has successfully managed to operate in both fields. The panelists will discuss the issues the field faces from their perspective and then a debate will ensue to find points of intersection and divergence between the two fields.
Our paper session will showcase cutting edge research with leading scholars in the field commenting and synthesizing the presentations and suggesting ways in which the work can bridge across fields.
